Discover How You Can Find Your DVD R Media Easily.

The first day of the DVD R media hit the market, was only one type of media and it cost almost $30 for a single DVD. If you did your homework properly, you probably realized that it's a lot cheaper to buy a blank DVD but also harder because there isn't only one type of media anymore. You'll see that every type of media has different compatibility issues and every one of them have different recording speed and come in with different storage. Since I believe not everyone is up to date, here's the 101 on DVD medias.

Did you know there were 6 different types of DVD medias? You have DVD-R for General, DVD-R for Authoring, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD+R. You'll notice only the characters on the right side of the DVD changed. Basically the "R" stands for writeable and "RW" stands for rewritable. The - and + in between is regarding the generation, older one is - and newer one is +. And if you were wondering what the "RAM" stands for, it's because this DVD is best for storage more than anything else. If I'm not mistaken, you won't find an all-in-one DVD burner that accepts all of these types of media. In order to make sure which type of DVD media you need, check what would be compatible with your DVD burner.

Usually you'll buy a DVD disc that is compatible with your DVD burner, not the other way around. So if your burner only accepts DVD-R than don't buy a DVD-RW as it will probably not work. Another important point is the speed at which you can burn because faster disks can be a little bit more expensive. So if you have a 4X DVD burner, don't go buy a 16X disc. Instead get a 8X if you can't find 4X on the shelf. Buying the right type of DVD disc for your drive will also ensure that you will not damage your hardware or your disk. Though I mentioned speed on your disk, this speed on the disc is different than the speed of the burner.

The speed on your DVD disc is referring to the speed it can record. For example, let's say you have a 16X DVD drive but a 4X DVD disc, that means your burner will not go faster than 4X because if it does you might damage the disc. This situation is unlikely to happen today because the difference in price for a 4X DVD or 16X DVD is so small that it's better to go with the higher number. but there will be a big difference in recording time whether you choose the 4X or 16X. On top of speed, there's also the storage space on every disc. Do you know how much storage space you need?

A standard DVD Can hold 4.7GB of storage. In the older days it was something around 2GB and it still is today for some type of DVDs such as the DVD-RAM. But that's not all you can even find dual layered DVD discs which can hold twice as much storage space as a standard one or what they call a single layered DVD. Again you will need to make sure that your drive allows dual layered DVD discs or it will be pointless for you to go and purchase these discs.

It may seem complicated at first but when you purchased your DVD R media, you'll see that a lot of those extra features are useless to see you and this will make your choice a lot easier. if you're looking for something big suggests that double layer DVD as it is currently the biggest storage disk available on the market. Well that's it for the introduction to the DVD media.
